Really, I'm never going to wear a ballet tutu. Even in the dark days of childhood when I did ballet I didn't lust after one. Note: I was utterly hopeless at ballet as I'm hilariously uncoordinated and inelegant, but I've been asked a couple of times recently if I was once a dancer - I think this is called yoga posture.
But, back to the tutu. Obviously I have been exposed to too much media, because I really really want this tulle skirt. Wrong?

Ooh, I think it's gorgeous. With a slim silk top....
It's not just me then, Pseu! I think it is so pretty ... Unfortunately the one picture is very 'spendy' but I might keep my eye out for a high street version (I can justify it by saying that Kid 2 will use it for dress-ups!).
My "concert black" skirt is similar to this, though without the tie at the waist. It's floor-length (as required by concert dress codes), and insanely flattering. I finally figured out why -- it's not gathered at the waist, but is instead an a-line. But with the two layers of tulle, it's still plenty "foofy."
One of these days I may have it chopped off to tea length, since I haven't been on stage for ages. I'd probably wear it more that way.
Rubi, tell more - what do you perform? Your skirt sounds divine, and I think you're right about the key being ungathered at the waist. I have a small waist but also narrow hips, so I'm rather stickish and gathered waists look AWFUL on me.
I sing. My skirt and I have been onstage at Carnegie and Alice Tully Halls, when I sang with the Julliard Choral Union. But I haven't been on stage in a long time, just singing for myself these days. In my heart of hearts, I'm a torch singer manque' -- and that requires a whole different wardrobe!
Wow, that's very impressive, Rubi. As for the torch singer wardrobe, that would be a fun one to shop for, wouldn't it?!
